The Shanghai Jade Buddha Temple (Ā āäøęµ·ēä½åÆŗā āĀ Jade Buddha) was founded in 1882 by the monk Hui Gen (ę §ę ¹ę³åø). After his journey to Burma and the return of five jade Buddha statues, he enshrined some of them in Shanghai, eventually becoming the Jade Buddha Temple we know today. Although the temple has been destroyed by fire and relocated several times, it was rebuilt on An Yuan Road in 1918 and remains to this day. This important Zen Buddhist temple is considered one of Shanghai's ten tourist landmarks.
